Documentary Film Screening and Discussion

Garda Pangan collaborated with the Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS) to organize the screening of the documentary film "Besok Kita Nanem Lagi?", held at Regent Garden, Pos Bloc, Surabaya, on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The event was initiated by CIPS in collaboration with several communities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as part of a nationwide film screening tour. The documentary was screened in six major cities across Indonesia: Semarang, Aceh, Makassar, Sumedang, Surabaya, and concluded in Jakarta as the final destination of the tour.

The documentary "Besok Kita Nanem Lagi?" tells the story of two generations of farmers, Sardi (70) and Ryan (24), who continue to adapt amid shrinking agricultural land, stalled generational regeneration, the impacts of climate change, and policies that have further limited opportunities for farmers. In Surabaya, the discussion extended beyond the challenges faced by farmers to include current issues affecting local fishers, such as proposed coastal reclamation projects that threaten their livelihoods, the lack of generational renewal in the fisheries sector, and the important role of women fishers. To enrich the discussion, the event invited farmers and fishers from Surabaya to share their firsthand experiences and perspectives on the environmental and social challenges they face. The screening and discussion aimed to encourage the public to listen, understand, and develop collective solutions to the challenges faced by farmers and fishers, who play a vital role in safeguarding Indonesia's food security and building a stronger, more equitable, and sustainable food system.

As a collaborating organization, Garda Pangan engaged several partners to support the successful implementation of the documentary screening and discussion in Surabaya. Among them was Cahyo Prayogo (Mas Yoyo), who actively promotes food security through urban farming initiatives and documentary filmmaking about farmers. Mas Yoyo served as the discussion facilitator, guiding the conversation between the audience and the invited practitioners from both the farming and fisheries sectors. Representing the farming sector was Galuh Yunita, an urban farming practitioner in Surabaya, while Misbachul Munir, Chairman of KNTI Jawa Timur, represented the fisheries sector.

The screening in Surabaya was attended by 57 participants, including members of civil society, representatives from KPPI Surabaya, and students from several universities in Surabaya. Through this event, Garda Pangan and CIPS also collected 47 petition signatures in support of improving the welfare of farmers and fishers.
